Safe Trade Program

People who conduct transactions through online sites such as Craigslist and Facebook may use the lobby and front parking lot area of the Westtown East Goshen Regional Police Department (WEGO) as a “Safe Trade” location.  The police department has a parking space directly in front of the building designated for “Safe Trade.”  This marked space is subject to 24-hour video recording.  The lobby of the police department, which is also under 24-hour video recording, will be open to persons wishing to conduct online transactions during weekdays ONLY (Monday thru Friday), excluding observed national holidays, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.  Anyone wishing to use the parking lot and/or lobby of the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department should be aware that while all transactions will be subject to video recording, police officers will not assist or witness any transactions.

Online Transaction Safety Tips:

  • Trust your instincts. If it sounds too good to be true, it normally is!
  • Insist that you meet at a public place such as a police station. Do not meet in a secluded area.
  • Do not accept a request to change the venue at the last minute.
  • Do not invite strangers into your home, and do not go to theirs.
  • Be cautious when buying/selling high value items.
  • Conduct transactions with cash/money orders only.
  • Perform the transaction during daylight hours.
  • Tell a friend or family member about your intentions and have someone go with you, and take your cell phone with you.
