Sunoco Pipeline Update: Corrected Stipulated Order and Exhibits

On August 8, 2017 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Environmental Hearing Board issued a Stipulated Order related to the Sunoco Mariner East Pipeline Project.  This order requires Sunoco to undertake additional subsurface testing in advance of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations, provide a report on the testing results to all property owners with private water wells within 450 feet of the proposed pipeline, and offer to perform testing of those wells before, during and after the start or re-start of HDD operations (see paragraphs 7 and 8).

Note:  For reference purposes, the segment of the two proposed pipelines that is located in Westtown, is noted in Exhibit 2 as Item 19, Spread 6, Chester Road, PADEP Permit HDD#PA-CH-0421.0000-RD (20” & 16”).

Notice to Residents with Private Wells

As you may be aware from recent news articles, horizontal directional drilling activities for the Sunoco Mariner East 2 Pipeline Project has adversely affected water wells for some properties along the pipeline route in West Whiteland Township. While this may be an isolated incident, the Westtown Board of Supervisors is encouraging all residents with a well within ½ mile of Route 352 to have their water tested. The test is intended establish a baseline, documenting the quality and yield of the well water in the event the pipeline construction impacts your well in the future. Please note also that the PA Department of Environmental Protection recommends that well water be tested every year for total coliform bacteria, nitrates, total dissolved solids, and pH. For a list of well testing laboratories in Chester County, click here.
